This year the National Trust are celebrating 50 years of caring for our wonderful coast with a year long festival. During the festival they are collecting people’s stories and memories of time spent by the sea… and this is a fun way to get involved!

So, I’ve been tagged by NTSouthWest to take part in the 7 question tag – coast facts.

My Coast Facts

What’s your favourite beach?
Porthminster Beach in St Ives. I’ve visited and spent time on many beaches around the UK and abroad. However, Porthminster has that extra special something – white golden sand, clear turquoise sea and that vista out to the Harbour and Godrevy in the distance.

Sea or Sand?
Sea! no Sand! Ah that is a hard question. Okay, the sea definitely wins. It’s what makes the coast! There is nothing better than a high swell and the crashing of the waves against the rocks.

Tell a memory of being by the sea.
I was really lucky as a child to have so many holidays by the sea. My grandparents would take me to Anglesea and we would camp along the coast. On one occasion I’d gone for a little swim in the sea and when I emerged  I couldn’t see my Grandma or Grandpa (they could see me!). Oh did I panic and boy was that beach vast! Up and down I was running for quite sometime. When I was finally saw my grandparents they were laughing so much as they had been calling, waving and trying to get my attention as I was running up and down that beach!! This story is one of my favourites as it is retold so often and always made my Grandpa smile.

What’s your favourite seaside food?

Mussels. I cannot get enough of them!

Favourite Ice cream Flavour?

Salted Caramel

Have you lived by the sea?

Yes! The first place was in Galway in Ireland, I lived in a little village called Barna on the Connemara coast. It rained a lot and was pretty cold, but goodness it was delightful. After many years living in London we finally made it back to the coast and are now living in St Ives, Cornwall. What can I say… when the coast gets you it sure does get you! Couldn’t imagine ever living away from the sea 😀

Favourite place on the coast?

Right now it has to be Cape Cornwall. There is such a rawness to it, come rain or shine. I actually only discovered it a few months back and have visited many occasions since. I take my camera, flask of tea and a note book then walk and sit for hours. Bliss!

Looking forward to reading your coastal answers!
